Note: The offline dictionary database is a Premium feature. If you’re using the free version of the dictionary, the offline database isn’t available, and the dictionary works online only. To use the dictionary offline, please upgrade to Premium.
If you have Premium and the app asks you to download the offline database every day, the most common cause is a cleaner or optimizer app on your device that automatically removes large files.
Before you start: Make sure you’re signed in with the account that has your Premium subscription. If the app doesn’t recognize your Premium status, the offline database won’t be available.
Why this happens
The dictionary database is one large file that provides offline access, so cleaner and optimizer apps often target it and delete it automatically. Many of these apps can also clear app data and cache, which also removes the offline database.
Common examples include Samsung’s built-in Device care/Storage booster, Files by Google, and Phone Master. Your phone’s default optimizer, or any third-party cleaner app you’ve installed, can also cause this.
Samsung devices
To turn off auto-optimization:
- Go to Settings > Biometrics and security.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Device care.
- Tap Storage, then tap Storage booster.
- Turn off Auto delete unnecessary data.
On some Samsung devices, Device care is a separate menu. In that case, go to Settings > Battery and device care, tap the three dots in the top right corner, tap Automation, and turn off Auto optimize daily.
Google Pixel devices
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Storage.
- Turn off Smart storage.
Cleaner apps
If you’ve installed Files by Google or a similar cleaner app, check its settings and turn off any options that automatically delete large files, clear app data, or clear app cache.
