Core PDF Security Features in MobiPDF on Windows

MobiPDF provides built-in PDF security controls that let you protect sensitive documents while still allowing specific actions when needed. Below is an overview of the core security features and permission settings available in MobiPDF.

Document Restrictions & Permissions

When security is applied to a PDF, you can control what others are allowed (or not allowed) to do with the file.

The Document Restrictions Summary panel displays the current permissions set for a document, such as:

  • Printing – Allow or restrict printing of the document.

  • Document Assembly – Control whether pages can be inserted, deleted, or reorganized.

  • Content Copying – Allow or block copying text and images.

  • Content Copying for Accessibility – Permit screen readers and accessibility tools to access the content.

  • Page Extraction – Control whether pages can be extracted into a new file.

  • Commenting – Allow or restrict adding annotations or comments.

  • Filling of Form Fields – Permit users to complete interactive forms.

  • Signing – Allow adding digital or electronic signatures.

Each permission can be set to Allowed or Not Allowed, depending on the level of control you want.

Password Protection

MobiPDF supports two types of password protection:

1. Open Password (User Password)

  • Required to open and view the document.

  • Prevents unauthorized access to the file.

2. Permissions Password (Owner Password)

  • Controls editing, printing, and other actions.

  • Allows you to restrict specific features while still sharing the document.

When to Use PDF Security

PDF security is useful for:

  • Sharing confidential business documents

  • Sending contracts or legal files

  • Distributing educational materials

  • Protecting intellectual property

  • Sending forms that must be filled but not altered

Best Practices

  • Always store passwords securely.

  • Test the document after applying restrictions to ensure the correct permissions are set.
