If you're entering data like product codes, zip codes, or any number that starts with a zero, you may notice MobiSheets automatically removes the leading zeros (e.g., 012 becomes 12). Here’s how to keep those zeros using Text format.
Option 1: Enter a Number with Leading Zeros Using an Apostrophe
-
Tap a cell to select it.
-
Type an apostrophe (') before the number.
Example: '00123 -
The number will appear as 00123 in the cell, and MobiSheets will treat it as text to preserve the leading zeros.
Note: The apostrophe will not be visible in the cell after you press enter - it’s only used to tell MobiSheets to treat the entry as text.
Option 2: Set Cell Format to Text (Recommended for multiple entries)
This ensures every number you type in the selected cells keeps its leading zeros - no need to add an apostrophe every time.
For Individual Cells or a Range
-
Select the cell(s) you want to apply the format to.
-
In the Home menu, select the Format button.
-
Select Number Formatting > Text.
-
Now when you type 00123, it will display exactly as typed.
For an Entire Column
-
Tap the column letter (e.g., A) to select the entire column.
-
Go to the Format tab.
-
Choose Number Formatting > Text.
For the Entire Spreadsheet
-
Tap the square in the top-left corner (between column A and row 1) to select all cells.
-
Go to the Format tab.
-
Select Number Formatting > Text.
Additional Tips
-
Leading zeros are often used in fields like zip codes, invoice numbers, and product or ID codes.
-
MobiSheets treats any value entered into a "Text"-formatted cell exactly as typed, which is why this method works well.
